Here Today, Gone Tomorrow (1982)
Ukraine is a country on high alert and security at airports is tight. There are a number of things that scanners will check for as you enter the airport. So even before you get to check-in you may be asked to hand over certain items.
Before you pack your bag to come home, please check you don't have any of the following:
1. Items from the conflict zones (known here as the ATO).
August organisations such as Kyiv's town hall occasionally hold craft fairs and events for people living, fighting, wounded by or displaced by the conflict in the east of the country. Some crafters paint spent bullets as souvenirs and fundraisers. These will not get through airport security. Certain chocolate shops in Kyiv also sell solid chocolate hand grenades and revolvers. These are life-size and again are not recommended when testing the patience of airport security staff.
2. Antiques
Be careful what you buy. WWII medals and 19th century Italian clavichords are on an odd list of things which cannot be taken out of the country. You are safe with most secondhand goods made after the 1960.
TIP: To check out what's possible and what's not please read this English language translation of the Ministry of Culture's directive on exporting antiques: https://ukraine.usembassy.gov/antiques.html
The Kyiv Department of Culture, Expertise Section at 380 (44) 279-5647 or 380 (44) 279-6109 if you have any questions regarding items you own, wish to purchase, and/or plan to export. They are located in Kyiv at Shevchenka Boulevard, 3.

3. Certain foods
If you live in an EU country then you will know that you cannot return home with dairy products, meat or fresh fruit and vegetables. If you are caught you will be warned and the items taken off you as a bio-hazard. In the UK failure to comply a second time can lead to a potential gaol sentence of seven years in prison. The good news is you can take fish!!
