Ukrainian fashion brands

Fashion is a big industry in Ukraine. It is also growing in popularity thanks to a patriotic drive to buy Ukrainian.
You may be interested because clothes cost a fraction that they do in western Europe (at least half the price). An additional reason is that Ukrainian fashion is quite quirky, and you can buy looks that are stylish but not available in other parts of Europe.
The city has a variety of ways to purchase fashion, from couture to high street.
Let's start with markets. There are a number of fashion markets in the summer months. They are centred around Podil's Kontraktova Ploscha square, Andriivskiy Spusk and the Platforma arts hub. What's on sites will have updates.
One of these markets has progressed into developing a full sized department store for over 100 small scale designers. The Bci Cboi (All Ours) https://www.instagram.com/bci.cboi/ store is on Kreschatik Street and has three storeys. Men's items are on the first floor to the left, and rather limited. But includes the Scowth underwear brand. For women there is Pavlenki - the mother of all chunky knits https://m.facebook.com/pavlenkiworkshop/.

A few doors down the same street is Arber https://shop.arber.ua/index.php. This is a high street men's tailors with off the peg suits and sports wear. The company often has half price sales. They take up trousers for free.
In the underground shopping mall at Maidan Square you will find three further options. First there is U Dress https://m.facebook.com/udress.int/. This chain store has a concept of only Ukrainian stocking small-run designer wear that use European natural fabrics.
In the same mall is another women's Ukrainian fashion store, Must Have http://musthave.ua/en/fabric/ and for youth fashion there's the UA Made https://uamade.com.ua/ru/30-odezhda store in the basement.
Couture
In addition to high street fashion you can go very high end if you like spending €600 and over on an item of clothing. These couture items are mainly sold abroad to discerning clients. But if you are looking to drop a few names then try these - and their websites:

For a longer browse here's an English language link to all the designers at this years Ukraine Fashion Week with inks to their websites: http://fashionweek.ua/en/brand
Dog Tailors
If you want to take you best friend a souvenir home, then you can also try out Woofit https://www.facebook.com/pages/Woofit-Dogwear-shop/166297743837588 dogswear. If you provide the neck chest and length measurements then your Woofit tailor will make you a rain coat or puffer jacket in the colours of your choice.
Who is you favourite Ukrainian fashion designer?

Addicted to You (2002)  Ukrainian Pie   KYIV DESTINATION: Pie shops If you stand by St Sophia's cathedral in the upper city, you will notice a pink tower in a nearby street.  This is the 19th century fire station watch tower. Diagonally opposite the forestation is a restaurant called Штолле - or Stolle  http://stolle.com.ua/en/ .   This chain specialises in Ukrainian pies (Pirog). Pie is a very complex affair in Ukraine with a variety of vegetarian, meat, fish and fruit centres. Pie is a meal in itself. The fillings combine vegetables and meat and flavours. Examples include Cowberry pie, Rabbit and Mushrooms Pie, Herring Pie, Cherry Pie and Brocilli Pie, among others. Each pie is enormous and can feed a large family. In Stolle you can buy slices or a whole pie to eat in or take away. The store / restaurant is currently undergoing refurbishment ready for Eurovision! If you prefer something smaller than a Pirog, then you can try little pies, or Pi
Believe'n'Peace (1999)  Maltese Connections  EUROVISION COUNTRY: Malta KYIV DESTINATIONS: Maltese Restaurant Porto; Dog friendly cafes in Kyiv Unlike many other European cities, Kyiv can boast of it's own Maltese restaurant, called Porto  http://porto-rest.com/en/ , which provides excellent (if expensive - at €20 a person) fish and southern Mediterranean dishes. It has been completely renovated last year. Below we show the before on the left, and the after on the right. Porto is located very close to Olympiska metro station, a corner kick away from the main football stadium. All is not what it seems, however, as the chef/owner is Serbian!
