If I Could Choose (1967)

Kyiv's own Emerald Isle

EUROVISION COUNTRY: IRELAND
KYIV DESINATION: Irish Pubs, Rusanivka Island and eateries around the Eurovision venue
As the poster above shows Kyiv has a strong affiliation with Ireland, mainly through drink! On St Patrick's Day there are various events in the numerous Irish pubs around the city. Here are a few:
In the lower city Podil there are two Irish pubs. O'Connors http://oconnors.kiev.ua/?lang=en is by Konraktova metro station on 15/8 Khoryvka St.  In summer it has an open air veranda where you can sit.
At 21, Konstantovskaya St,  there is Andrew's Irish bar. http://andrews-irish-pub.com.ua
And between Maidan Square and St Sophia's Square (17a, Mikhailivska St) there is O'Briens Irish Pub: http://obriens.kiev.ua/en/events/.
Finally To Dublin Irish pub is right by the Eurovision venue (see below).

Places to eat near the Eurovision Venue

There are three directions that you can go from the nearest metro station Liboberzhna in order to gert some food close by to the International Exhibition Centre.
                    1. At the Exhibition Centre - around car park
                    2. Just beyond the Exhibition centre
                    3. On Rusanivka island
The area around the International Exhibition Centre will be fenced off during Euroivision. So to reach some of the nearby locations you will need to stay outside the Eurovision zone.

1. At the Exhibition Centre

Once you walk under the bridge walking towards the Eurovision venue you will see the KOMOD shopping centre on your right. Here there are two coffee shops, and on the to floor a food court.
Closer to the venue on the right is the large Novus supermarket. On the outside is a Mafia Italian/sushi restaurant. Inside the supermarket also has a cafe. There is also a Sea/Beer (Море Пива) concession. This is a very Ukrainian institution that combines their love of eating dried fish when drinking draught beer. Think an upmarket version of lager and peanuts.
If you walk behind or through the Novus shopping mall you come out on to a road with a number of restaurants. This includes the plush Barin grill and wine bar: https://reston.com.ua/catalog/barin
The cool Moss Bar.
Cafe L'Kafa. http://lkafa-cafe.com.ua
A family restaurant Koroli http://rsd.com.ua/restaurant/KOROLI.html.
And a Mediterranean restaurant chain Restoran. http://finefamily.com.ua/index-eng.htm

2. Beyond the Exhibition Centre

If you head towards the modern large church, beyond the Eurovision venue, and walk to the right along its street, in about 50 metres you will see an advertising for Stariy Dzorat restaurant. The hoarding, wrapped around a truck, points you down a track. In about 30 metres you walk onto a river beach. In front of you is the floating restaurant. https://ru.foursquare.com/v/старый-джорат/539c085d498ec2230a522b4c

3. Rusanivka Island

Dubai has The Palm. Kyiv has Rusanivka Island.
Built on the same principles, Rusanivka pre-dates The Palm by about 50 years, and was the first place in the world to use the same technology of building up artificial islands as residential zones.
It is also has a tree-lined boulevard and river-side park, just a 10-min ute walk from the Eurovision venues.
To get there exit the train and exit the platform's left-hand side.
You will come out of the Liboberezhska metro station and see a narrow passage ahead of you.
The multi-story Turist hotel will be on your right.
Walk across the front of the hotel, and the next building is To Dublin Irish pub and microbrewery: http://to-dublin.com.ua
The pub has an indoor and outdoor seating area.
Continue in the same direction for 300 metres and you cross a bridge onto Rusanivka Island.
This is a leafy and green island with parks, boulevards and popular walks along the islands shores.
The Park on your right leads you directly to Smorodina restaurant, which is a grill, pizza  and fresh pasta restaurant up in the trees of the park. http://smorodina.ua
Opposite is another L"Kafa cafe. http://lkafa-cafe.com.ua
Continuing along the road you will walk past:
Tarantino Italian grill http://tarantino.ua/en/  This restaurant is unusual in that it also is built around a hairdressing salon.
Momenti Family restaurant is next door. http://moments.kiev.ua
Followed by Japanese and sushi restaurant Murukami: http://murakami.ua
Spaghetti Pasta Bar: http://spaghetti.com.ua
1950's Diner Zheltok: http://zheltok.ua
Fan Bar Banka Bar - where the classic Ukrainian food all comes in jars: http://banka.ua/en/about/
Italian restaurant Pesto Cafe: http://www.pestocafe.ua
and River Grill restaurant - a pop up on the banks of the river with an outdoor hookah bar https://m.facebook.com/river.grill.kyiv/

Addicted to You (2002)  Ukrainian Pie   KYIV DESTINATION: Pie shops If you stand by St Sophia's cathedral in the upper city, you will notice a pink tower in a nearby street.  This is the 19th century fire station watch tower. Diagonally opposite the forestation is a restaurant called Штолле - or Stolle  http://stolle.com.ua/en/ .   This chain specialises in Ukrainian pies (Pirog). Pie is a very complex affair in Ukraine with a variety of vegetarian, meat, fish and fruit centres. Pie is a meal in itself. The fillings combine vegetables and meat and flavours. Examples include Cowberry pie, Rabbit and Mushrooms Pie, Herring Pie, Cherry Pie and Brocilli Pie, among others. Each pie is enormous and can feed a large family. In Stolle you can buy slices or a whole pie to eat in or take away. The store / restaurant is currently undergoing refurbishment ready for Eurovision! If you prefer something smaller than a Pirog, then you can try little pies, or Pi
Believe'n'Peace (1999)  Maltese Connections  EUROVISION COUNTRY: Malta KYIV DESTINATIONS: Maltese Restaurant Porto; Dog friendly cafes in Kyiv Unlike many other European cities, Kyiv can boast of it's own Maltese restaurant, called Porto  http://porto-rest.com/en/ , which provides excellent (if expensive - at €20 a person) fish and southern Mediterranean dishes. It has been completely renovated last year. Below we show the before on the left, and the after on the right. Porto is located very close to Olympiska metro station, a corner kick away from the main football stadium. All is not what it seems, however, as the chef/owner is Serbian!
