KYIV DESTINATIONS: The Chocolate House and Lviv Handmade Chocolate stores
The Viennese were so grateful to a Ukrainian merchant and translator for completing a secret mission that broke a siege in the 17th century with the Ottoman empire that they gave him 300 sacks of coffee seized off the defeated Turks.
The merchant returned to Lviv and opened a coffee shop - the first in central Europe.
A century later Lviv became an Austrian city for over 100 years, and chocolate also made its way into the hearts of these western Ukrainians. The first chocolate factory in Austrian Lviv was set up in 1882. In Ukraine the city is famous for the very Austrian habits of consuming high-quality coffee, chocolate, strudel and cake.
Austrian traditions are also Ukrainian

Fortunately if you are on a short stay in Ukraine you don't have to travel to Lviv to sample these Ukrainian-made Austrian treats. The Lviv Handmade Chocolate Company https://www.chocolate.lviv.ua/en/ has stores and market stall barrows in many places across the city.
If you wish to continue the chocolate theme, then its also worth taking a tour of The Chocolate House, near the Kreschatik metro. This 19th century villa is part of the Kiev Museum of Russian Art. It is called the chocolate house because of the colour of the exterior walls, however the interiors are far from choclatey.
Each room has a different theme, from the al-Hambrha to art nouveau.
Some rooms also have art works from the period up to the 1980s on display.
