Restaurant Chains

There are a lot of restaurant chains in Kyiv. So wherever you are you will probably find a combination of them on the main streets. Going by their menus Kyivans like Sushi, Pizza and burgers. Some restaurants combine Japanese and Italian food as their USP. Many are styled on European restaurant chains and standards are high. Prices are also low. Three-course business lunch menus can be as low as 1 Euro. Never expect to pay more than £20 a head. Average meals in the joints below would be 5-6 Euros all in.
Here are a few (more will come):
On Khreshatik you will find:
Lviv Croissants: - which does exactly what it says on the tin.
Turkish House: Flame grilled Turkish fare and pides. Freshly cooked, so high quality.
Шоколаднџа: (or Shokoladnitsa) a cafe specialising in chocolate.
Катюша:  (or Katyusha) a retro-Soviet chain selling comfort food from yesteryear. Although the food quality is waaaaay better that Soviet times.
Руккола:  (or Rucola) - a pizza and pasta restaurant.
Star Burger: Young burger joint styled loosely on the Good Burger Company chain.
Пузата Хата: (or Puzata Hata - a Ukrainian pun on Pizza Hut). This is more a fast food restaurant providing Ukrainian home cooking at low prices.
Casta: A sushi and burger chain. They also pride themselves on their karoeke. Many of their limited edition specials therefore have a musical theme. Last year they were offering the Liverpool Burger.
Lviv Handmade Chocolate: Each shop has a cafe, specialising in chocolate based cakes, desserts and drinks. Probably the best chocolate in the world.
Finally one of the glories of Kiev is the summer verandas which are hand built afresh each year. This allows diners to eat al fresco and watch the world go by.
What's your favourite chain?

Addicted to You (2002)  Ukrainian Pie   KYIV DESTINATION: Pie shops If you stand by St Sophia's cathedral in the upper city, you will notice a pink tower in a nearby street.  This is the 19th century fire station watch tower. Diagonally opposite the forestation is a restaurant called Штолле - or Stolle  http://stolle.com.ua/en/ .   This chain specialises in Ukrainian pies (Pirog). Pie is a very complex affair in Ukraine with a variety of vegetarian, meat, fish and fruit centres. Pie is a meal in itself. The fillings combine vegetables and meat and flavours. Examples include Cowberry pie, Rabbit and Mushrooms Pie, Herring Pie, Cherry Pie and Brocilli Pie, among others. Each pie is enormous and can feed a large family. In Stolle you can buy slices or a whole pie to eat in or take away. The store / restaurant is currently undergoing refurbishment ready for Eurovision! If you prefer something smaller than a Pirog, then you can try little pies, or Pi
Believe'n'Peace (1999)  Maltese Connections  EUROVISION COUNTRY: Malta KYIV DESTINATIONS: Maltese Restaurant Porto; Dog friendly cafes in Kyiv Unlike many other European cities, Kyiv can boast of it's own Maltese restaurant, called Porto  http://porto-rest.com/en/ , which provides excellent (if expensive - at €20 a person) fish and southern Mediterranean dishes. It has been completely renovated last year. Below we show the before on the left, and the after on the right. Porto is located very close to Olympiska metro station, a corner kick away from the main football stadium. All is not what it seems, however, as the chef/owner is Serbian!
